Certified Pipeline Integrity Engineer

The Pipeline Integrity Engineer certification scheme is for individuals who deal with pipeline integrity problems, and it ensures that an individual performing a task has sufficient and demonstrable capabilities (competencies) to perform the task correctly, with some supervision. The duties, tasks, knowledge, skills, and attributes of an individual certified by this program can be summarized as:

  • Can assess defects reported in a pipeline, using and understanding best practices;
  • Give reasoned conclusions and recommendations on pipeline engineering critical assessment;
  • Write clear reports, understanding the objectives and consequences of his/her work; and,
  • Is able to engage with clients at meetings, and explain their work.

Eligibility Requirements

Individuals who wish to pursue the Pipeline Integrity Engineer certification scheme must have an engineering degree from a recognized or accredited university, or have a professional engineering qualification (for example, PEng or CEng) and obtained certification in each of the following competencies to be eligible to take the comprehensive pipeline integrity final exam:

  • Certified in Pipeline Engineering Principles: CS_001F
  • Certified in Pipeline Inspection and Surveillance: CS_005F
  • Certified in Pipeline Integrity Management: CS_014F
  • Certified in Pipeline Defect Assessment: CS_020F
  • Certified in In-Line Inspection Technologies & Procedures: CS_022F
  • Certified in In-Line Inspection Data Analysis & Reporting: CS_026F
  • Certified in Stress Analysis: CS_030F
  • Certified in Fracture Mechanics: CS_032F

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY

Candidate eligibility criteria is established by the QPPI Certification Board, based upon education, training experience, knowledge and skills necessary related to competent performance in the pipeline integrity profession as delineated in the results of the Job Task Analysis (JTA).

A JTA is a formal process for determining or verifying the knowledge and skills individuals must have to perform their job-related activities.
